On your wedding day I want you to ignore me. Like that person you spot on the street and try desperately to avoid eye contact, or maybe you turn around and swiftly walk the other way remembering that you left the gas on. I'm giving you permission to ignore me, pretend I'm not there and shut me out.
Okay, maybe I don't want you to walk the other way, but pretending I'm not there would be great!
"I'm simply looking for YOU"
I want you to ignore me when it comes to portraits. There's nothing I love more than seeing you both fall into each other carefree, like no ones watching. Away from the public eye, finally, some time to yourselves on one of the biggest days of your lives.
Most of my couples book me and tell me that they love how natural my work is. I like to capture the day as it unfolds naturally as no two weddings are the same. The couple, the venue, the time of year, the weather, the family, the friends, the music, the food and so on, all make each wedding unique. Telling that story the way it happened for me is what it's all about, and capturing you both, in love, naturally, is what I want to deliver; and I find the best way to do this is to ignore me.
I will walk around and find some ideal places for portraits where the light is just right or the location is just too cool not to use, but once I pop you into place and maybe give you a little guidance on how to position yourselves, I want you to melt like butter into one another as if no one else is around. Think of how you're feeling on your special day, the first time you met, the first time you kissed, the feeling you got during the service as you exchanged your vows and let those feelings wash over you. Don't spend the 15-20 minutes we spend doing portraits looking into the camera, spend that time looking at the person you're going to spend the rest of your life with and have an awesome time together. Doing this will bring out you.
"Telling that story the way it happened for me is what it's all about"
I'm not looking for "chin up, chin down, do this, do that", I'm simply looking for YOU. And the best way to find you is to shut out the world and allow for some time for just the two of you.
It's normal to feel a little nervous about having your picture taken even in a world of selfies, dog filters and snapchat! Having someone point a camera at you is a different ball game and I totally understand that! There's a reason I'm behind the camera and not in front of it, but making the portrait session about you and not the camera or even thinking about the photos will really allow for stunning, natural images that you're going to love! When you look back at your pictures I want you to remember how in love you are, and how you felt on your wedding day, not how posed and cheesy you look. Even though pictures aren't moving, you still attach feelings and memories to them. Let those memories and feelings be love and happiness than fake smiles looking at the camera.
Are you ready to ignore me and be you on your wedding day? Yes? Great, let's make some magic!
