Dan & Chloe: The Peak Edge Hotel, Derbyshire Wedding
Documentary wedding photography at the peak edge hotel
Roll back time to around 10 years and that's when I first met Dan. We were both part of the local music scene and we both supported each others bands playing local shows with one another on several occasions. Like most young musicians, the dream is to leave your little town and see the world but that's a steep hill to climb. University however opens doors to a whole new life and you get to break out and do your own thing. This is where Dan and Chloe's story begins in the hills of Huddersfield, halfway between Leeds and Manchester, North West. They met at university, fell in love, bought a house, started a family and then came the wedding bells!
They chose The Peak Edge Hotel for their wedding setting. A family owned, modern boutique hotel, located on the edge of Derbyshire’s Peak District National Park just outside of the North West and a change from my usual Lancashire haunts! The hotel and the views are simply stunning making it the perfect choice for their wedding and the perfect place for wedding photography.
The morning started in the bridal suit with the girls in high spirits for the day head. The bridal suit is the perfect place for getting ready as the huge windows allow for lots of natural light allowing for beautiful photos. While their hair and makeup was being done the champagne and laughter was flowing, I captured the guys arriving so ran out to capture a few pictures of their arrival and to see how Dan was feeling. Calm as always and excited for their big day I headed back to the girls to capture Chloe getting into their stunning dress and looking amazing. Dan was destined to cry when he saw her!
Relaxed and natural service
The wedding ceremony took place under the skylight windows allowing for more natural light and allowed everyone to see the wonderful weather we had for the day. A real blessing as it had been raining heavily the night before! As predicted, Dan shed a tear when he saw Chloe and that started her off also. After some tear, laugher and plenty of smiles the service was over and everyone headed outside to the gardens to continue the celebrations.
After some time chatting and catching up with their guests I pinched Dan and Chloe to have some portraits done by the pond and around the grounds. It was a nice time for them to speak to one another as the madness of the day can drive you both into different directions. Once we'd explored it was time for the wedding breakfast and speeches. I love the speeches, especially when they're a roller coaster of emotions, and it didn't take long before the tears, laugher and smiles were on show again. It's always nice to hear the stories told and to learn more about the couple and their families.
THE EVENING RECEPTION
The evening can always make for some amazing photographers. After the wedding breakfast and speeches we headed outside to capture the Bridal party and the Groomsmen. It was lot's of fun and the lighting was to die for! When the lighting is like that you simply need to stop what you are doing and head out for photos as it's too good to miss. Once we had the second lot of portrait shots done it was time to head back inside to get ready for the cake cutting and first dance. The entertainment for the evening was Agent Smith, a truly talented wedding band who not only perform songs incredibly well but they live show is electric! The dance floor was packed with nearly every guest on their feet throwing all sorts of moves! While some guests cooled off under the stars they could also visit Betty the photo-booth from Natty bees. You'll find her on my recommended suppliers list as her caravan photo-booth rules!
Returning to The Peak Edge Hotel as a photographer
Photographing weddings at the Peak Edge Hotel truly is amazing. The light available in the bridal room, the grounds with the rolling hills and the staff made it such a pleasurable day. The food they serve is amazing and I don't think you'll have a hard time finding something good to eat on their menu. With enough space and rooms to host a good number of wedding guests it really is a lovely place. Situated in Chesterfield just outside of the North West the town offers plenty of hotels in case you need more room for your guests to stay.
It was a real privilege to be there to capture their special day. Enjoy the wedding photos below!
