Katie and Chris' Beach Wedding in Devon!

Katie and Chris' Beach Wedding in Devon!

A festival themed wedding on a beach in Devon!

When Katie and Chris got in touch to tell me about their Devon wedding I knew right away I’ll be right at home capturing their special day. Katie used to watch one of my old bands many years ago and is kept in touch via the powers of social media so I was pleasantly surprised when she asked me to photograph their wedding.

We video called because of the distance and it was just like old times, she told me all about their plans to have the wedding on the beach and then returning to a nearby field to have a festival themed wedding. Katie is a huge music lover this came as no surprise.

I hit the road the night before as it was a six-hour drive so I needed to be closer to the action. In the morning the Sun was shining and Katie and her bridesmaids were getting ready in the marquees while her family and friends helped to set up for the day. Chris and his groomsmen were getting ready at the beach where they also set up for the ceremony.

I headed off to the beach before Katie to capture some photos of the guys greeting guests and doing last-minute preparations. The guys look smart in the wedding attire and made the right decision to wear shorts as it was shaping up to be a nice day.

When Katie arrived with her bridesmaids she smiles from ear to ear as she made her way down the aisle. The ceremony continued in a similar fashion with plenty of smiles and laughter and the little dog as the ring-bearer.

After the ceremony guests gathered to throw confetti and then met the bride and groom and wish them many congratulations. With it being a nice day the bride and groom provided alcoholic ice pops for the guests. While the meeting and greeting was taking place I was able to capture some natural photos of the guests enjoying themselves on the beach before taking Katie and Chris for a little stroll down to the sea to capture some natural portraits.

A wedding reception with outdoor games and activities.

It was soon time to head back for the wedding reception. Back at the site Katie and Chris had provided face painting and the bouncy castle along with garden games which went down a treat and allowed me to capture some great moments. It was soon time for the speeches and everyone headed inside to take their seats in the large marquee.

The evening entertainment was provided from a Birmingham band named pop-punk party, this came as no surprise as Katie and her friends have always been a huge lover of the genre and knew this music would go down a treat tonight. I spoke to the band while they were setting up to get an idea of what songs they were playing and when I spotted one I knew well I offered to take the stage with them to perform this song towards the end of the night which was the perfect ending for an amazing day.

Capturing the wedding for someone I’ve known so long is always special and having the wedding their way on the beach was refreshing and really should courage others to look beyond the usual wedding locations.
